THE UNEXPLAINED

Are you curious who the person is behind The Unexplained?
In the following text I will tell you who I am and how I got my passion for trance-music an decided to become a DJ / producer.

History

When I first started mixing music, the house scene was not that big as it is now. I was always busy making mix tapes.
It all started in 1988 with my parent’s simple hifi-set and later on when I earned some money, I bought some other equipment. In the beginning there wasn’t much money for expensive gear.

In that time I started with mixing of what we know these days as ‘Early Rave’. I played Early Rave on the decks from 1992 till 1996. From the beginning I was a big Bonzai Records fan.

So I did bought some more Belgium Techno, Trance and Hard-Trance records. And I bought more records of the specific sound of Bonzai Music.

From 1996 till 2000 I played all kind of different house styles. Such like Club-Trance, Club, Hard dance and Hardstyle.
But the sound of Trance, Progressive, Techno and that kind of styles was more to my tasting. So from 2000 till now I spin mainly Trance, Progressive, Deep House and Techno. Sometimes, on request I spin good old Early Rave.

Meet and greet other producers and DJ’s

Back Then Bonzai Records (one of my favourite music labels)  organized mett-ups for DJ’s and poducers, and in 2002 I had contact with DJ Fire from Bonzai. He arranged I could come over in Belgium to Blitz record store to buy some Bonzai Records in the store where the big magic happend these days.
I  visited the studio of Airwave and I had a meet and greet with Yves Deruyter and M.I.K.E. a.k.a. Push.

In the year 2003 I also met Armin van Buuren by ID&T radio where he did his radio show ‘A State Of Trance’. In that time I visited Armin in the studio almost every as studio guest.
There I have met Robert Nickson, Markuz Schulz, Misja Helsloot, Harry Lemon and some others. I was in trance heaven that time.

And there was House Confusion

In the year 2000 I came in contact with DJ Ruud.
He played every month in a small town called Winterswijk in a pub called “The Act”. We spinned there the whole evening all kind of dance music with other DJ’s. From club, trance, techno, early rave, hardstyle and more… Because the many different house styles we presented that evening, ‘House Confusion’ was born. We also organised ‘House Confusion Party’s’ in my home-town Eibergen at the pub ‘Tiffany’s’. In the near future we hope to organise some House Confusion Party’s again. Keep your eyes and ears open for new info about that.

Education and producing

In the beginning when I got in contact with Dance Music I always wanted my own studio. I also wanted to produce my own music.

In the year 2000 I did a study by SAE college in Amsterdam. There I graduated for the education ‘Studio Sound Certificate’. Later in the years 2002 and 2003 I also graduated for the courses of Studio Technician and Audio Engineer.
Those courses i did at AVA ( Audio Visual Academy ) in Hilversum.

In the past I had some different studio setups.
My first first Mac was a Powermac from the year 2005. (The spec’s for the geeks under us: Mac G5 Dual 2,3 Ghz processor 2,5 Gig of working memory with a Digidesign Rack002 sound card)

I’ve worked with the following software: DAWS, DOP (Digital Orchestra Pro) Protools, Cubase, Rebirth, Reason, etc…The last years I’m using Logic Pro, Garageband, Ableton Live, ZENBEATS. Besides the DAW software I’m also using different music Apps on my IOS devices.

In the beginning of the year 2020 I’ve started a trance project: The Airshifters with Harm Wesselink my ‘producer buddy in trance’. I’ve produced many music, but only for myself.
Now it’s time: in the year 2021 I will present this music to the big audience.

On my music label ‘Unexplained Music’ I have 2 record labels:
The Airshifters and House Confusion.

On the label The Airshifters we only release tracks from The Airshifters. On the House Confusion Label we can release more dance music genres such as Deep House, Techno, Drum and Bass, Hardstyle, House etc…

Keep your eyes and ears open to hear more of the sound of Unexplained Music!
